LARGO, Fla.—The Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church hosted people Saturday morning to remember the man who was shot and killed at a convenience store over an argument about a parking spot.
Markeis McGlockton,28, was fatally shot July 19 by Michael Drejka, 47, in front of the Circle A store on Sunset Point Road in Clearwater, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office officials said.
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri declined to arrest Drejka, saying it was a "stand your ground" incident.The sheriff's office forwarded the case to the state attorney’s office.
"Stand your ground" allows a person to use deadly force if they think they're about to face, "imminent death or great bodily harm."
McGlockton’s family told 10News in a previous interview that he was a good son and father.
"He was a gentle giant," said his father, Michael McGlockton. "Markeis was a man above all men. I raised him to be a man, and unfortunately it cost him his life."
"Markeis was the best man in the world," said Brittany Jacobs, his girlfriend. "He was the best man ever, and he didn't have to go like this."
Jacobs said their 5-year-old son was in the vehicle as McGlockton was shot and saw it happen.
The shooting has been making local and national headlines since the shooting.
