There are several reports indicating a body has been found near the Airbnb villa where missing South Florida woman Carla Stefaniak was staying.
A Costa Rican news publication, CRHoy.com, reports the body was found partially buried around noon Monday. Authorities have not identified the body.
CBS Miami, citing Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Department, reports search dogs made the discovery. Authorities are in contact with Stefaniak's family to make an identification, it says.
On Tuesday, the missing person page for Carla announced that relatives had left for the morgue to see if the body recovered was hers.
Mario Caicedo, Stefaniak's brother, told 10News the family is aware of the news reports but remains optimistic the body is not her. Another family member in Costa Rica recently checked the Airbnb and did not find anything suspicious.
Stefaniak's family last heard from her at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, growing ever more concerned for the 36-year-old's well being when she didn't show up for a 1 p.m. flight the following day.
They fear she might have been abducted.
If you have any information about her disappearance, Costa Rican investigators urge you to call 800-800-0645 or use WhatsApp to call 8800-0645.
