The famous ghost orchid at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Collier County is in bloom again. It has at least seven blooms on it, according to the News Press.

The orchid was discovered in July of 2007 by two visitors looking for owls.

The endangered flower blooms at least once a year but has been known to bloom several times with as many as 13 or more blooms.

There are a lot of rare things about this flower, which include the high number of blooms and the height of the plant which is about 45 feet off the ground.

Photographing the flower is very challenging. A very long lens and good lighting are essential in getting usable photographs. Staff at the swamp have put out a spotting scope for close viewing.
