FLORENCE, Ala. — A Florence woman marked a remarkable achievement on Thursday while friends and family celebrated her life -- all 110 years of it.
Lillie Cunningham was surrounded by loved ones as she finished the 11th decade of her life. It's a lifespan few will reach, though she still has some competition for the title of oldest person alive.
To honor the occasion, Florence Mayor Andrew Betterton issued a special proclamation thanking Cunningham. The proclamation noted her years of service to the Florence area.
The proclamation was presented by Florence City Council President Kaytrina Simmons, with Cunningham surrounded by flowers, balloons and birthday cards.
