A Katy toddler’s light-up sneakers did not cause a fire in the family SUV, according to the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office.

The fire in the backseat burned a hole through the floor, melted the passenger seat and destroyed the shoes.

The boy’s parents were convinced his “Jake and the Neverland Pirates” shoes were to blame.

"There just wasn't anything in there to start a fire," Jovan Virzaq told us back in May. "Only shoes and clothes."

They shared their story to warn other families.

Payless later pulled the shoes from store shelves.

The investigation continues, but investigators have ruled the shoes out as a cause.

“A comprehensive examination of the electrical components in the pair of shoes was completed by an electrical engineer from the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office,” said Captain Dean Hensley. “The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office has determined the electrical components in the shoe were not a competent ignition source, thus eliminating the shoes and electrical components as the cause of the fire.”

No one was hurt in the fire.
