Fantasy football loser gets embarrassing public punishment

Relief doesn't begin to describe Jib Reagan's emotions.
Drivers honked their horns and pedestrians snapped pictures of Chris Bergstrom on the corner wearing a sign that read “I am a fantasy football loser."

Relief doesn't begin to describe Jib Reagan's emotions.

"I don't know if there is anyone happier than me," he said while looking at the final score on his computer screen. "It could have been me wearing the sandwich board."

Jib narrowly avoided the fate that Chris Bergstrom had to endure on a St. Petersburg street corner the Wednesday before the Super Bowl.

"He gets to wear a toga and sandwich board for an hour waving at people of all walks of life here in downtown St. Petersburg," said Steve Farmer, one of the dozen or so players who managed to beat Bergstrom in their insurance agency's fantasy football league.

Relief was mixed with amusement this week when Reagan and the rest of the Wallace, Welch and Willingham fantasy football players watched the league-loser endure his punishment.

"The ole' fantasy football league," said Bergstrom. "It was bad."

Drivers honked their horns and pedestrians snapped pictures of Bergstrom on the corner wearing a sign that read "I am a fantasy football loser."

Roughly 57 million Americans played fantasy sports, which means there are thousands of losers each season.

Very few probably have to deal with punishment like this.

"129-63," Reagan said proudly, reading the final score off of his screen. "Which resulted in Chris Bergstrom wearing the sandwich board."

The tradition goes back over a decade for these co-workers and friends. The loser also had the option of being hunted on a paintball field while wearing an animal costume.

As embarrassing as it is, Bergstrom probably took the less painful punishment.
