Tampa Bay area man, Dontae Morris, has been found guilty of killing 20-year-old Derek Anderson on May 18, 2010. This is the fourth murder conviction for Morris.
A Hillsborough County jury found Dontae Morris guilty Wednesday of first-degree murder. The panel will reconvene to recommend a second life sentence for Morris or a third death sentence. A judge will make the final decision.
Prosecutors contended that Morris and Anderson had an argument on the basketball court after Morris learned Anderson was selling pot in the neighborhood which Morris considered his personal turf.
Morris is accused of five Tampa murders. He has now been found guilty in four of them.
In 2013 he was found guilty of shooting Rodney Jones at the Cotton Club in May of 2010 and received a life sentence. Also in 2010, Morris killed two Tampa police officers during a traffic stop and received two death sentences.
He is also accused of killing Harold Wright on June 8 of 2010, but has not been convicted yet.
