Inverness, Florida -- UPDATE: On Monday, Dec. 14, Citrus County officials said a geologist determined the depression that opened up at the intersection of Winding Path and Stroud Terrace is in fact a sinkhole. Engineers were out all day today working on a permanent fix.
The hole was stabilized Sunday night.

A truck full of fill dumps its load into a 20-foot by 20-foot hole in a road in Inverness.
Keith Pate and his wife had just come home and heard the boom Friday afternoon.
"My wife and I had just walked on the back porch and we felt the ground shake. Next thing you know a guy in a golf cart was banging on my front door saying there's a hole by your front yard," said Pate.
Across the street, a neighborhood holiday party is just beginning. To say the hole has made residents here nervous would be an understatement.
"It's a concern. My daughter lives here and we got about 50 people coming over tonight and they don't know what caused the hole, so yeah, it's a little upsetting," said Frank Triolo.
A neighbor reported that power is out in the area.
The construction crew filling in the hole will monitor the fill to see if it begins to drop over the weekend.
Later Friday, crews were smoothing the fill when the fill sank 6 to 8 feet.
