A company that used to operate some Tampa Bay area for-profit universities is filing for bankruptcy.

The Education Management Corporation was the name behind South University in Tampa and The Art Institute of Tampa.

But last year, it sold or closed all of its campuses.

The Education Management Corporation has filed for Chapter 7 in federal court.

This does not impact any of the schools that it used to operate.

About 50 of them were sold to the Dream Center, which is making some changes.

Schools like South University and the Art Institute of Tampa will remain open.
