CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Florida has a lot of active wildlife in the summertime. As the days get warmer, animals can get more active.

The Clearwater Fire and Rescue trained at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium Tuesday afternoon to prepare to respond to sick or injured marine animals. CMA has taken in many animals rescued by citizens and tourists over the years, like the infamous Cheeto and Frito the seahorse.

For the training, fire rescue personnel got up close and personal with Nicholas, an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin that lives at the facility. He was the perfect fit for the training, being a rescued dolphin himself.

The aquarium staff hosted an informational portion of the training for rescue personnel as well as an interactive training with Nicholas.

As always, the Clearwater Marine Aquarium urges residents contact to their rescue team or first responders directly when they come across a sick or injured marine animal.
