CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. — A 64-year-old woman was found dead in a home on Friday in Crystal River after authorities say they went to check up on the people who lived there.
Deputies arrived at the home near North Dawnflower Avenue after receiving an "urgent well-being check," the Citrus County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
At the home, law enforcement says they saw evidence of someone making entry to the home and then a struggle occurring inside the residence.
The woman – who was identified as Debora Jefferys – was reportedly found dead lying on the utility room floor of the home. As deputies continued to search the home, they saw a man on the living room floor who needed medical aid.
Deputies say the man was taken to a medical facility to receive treatment. He is stable.
"This incident is beyond devastating," Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast said in a statement. "This type of violence is a very serious matter. Our office works diligently to solve crimes such as these.

Detectives with the sheriff's office obtained a search warrant and collected evidence to help with the investigation.
The sheriff's office has not yet said if the woman's death was a murder or if they are looking for a person of interest or suspect.
