HOMOSASSA, Fla. — Deputies arrested a man who they said intentionally crashed into and shot at another car during a road rage incident on U.S. Highway 19.
Tyler Grimison, a 31-year-old from Homosassa, was arrested Tuesday and faces charges of shooting into an occupied conveyance, discharging a firearm in public and criminal mischief, according to the Citrus County Sheriff's Office.
A driver heading north on U.S. 19 reported Grimison swerving into and hitting the passenger side of their car. At some point after that, they heard a "boom" and figured it was a gunshot before realizing they'd been hit.
The driver briefly lost control of their car out of fear, and Grimison drove by on the shoulder, the sheriff's office said.
A detective who reviewed surveillance video from the area and spotted their cars — and after receiving a tip from the community — ultimately determined Grimison was a possible suspect. The two met in the Crystal River area, and the detective was able to determine probable cause to arrest him, the sheriff's office said.
Investigators seized a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting following the execution of a search warrant at Grimison's home, the agency added.
Grimison was booked in the Citrus County Jail.
"We appreciate the public's assistance and the diligent work of Detective Kelly in bringing this dangerous situation to a swift resolution," Sheriff Mike Prendergast said in a statement. "Road rage incidents can escalate quickly and have tragic consequences. Our agency takes these incidents very seriously and will continue to dedicate resources to investigate and hold offenders accountable."
