Foul play suspected in Citrus County: Man found with gunshot wound, body located in car's trunk

A homeowner is being called a suspect in the case.

INVERNESS, Fla. — Citrus County deputies discovered a man's body inside a car's trunk after they were called to a home for an "urgent well-being check," the agency said.

Law enforcement was called early Thursday morning to the home on Eden Drive.

Once on the scene, they say there was apparent evidence of foul play. Inside the home, the homeowner was found suffering from a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound to the stomach.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The sheriff's office says he's considered a suspect in the case after they found the body inside the truck of a car on the property.

An investigation is ongoing.

"Any death in our community is devastating, but it is especially tough to deliver the news that a loved one will not be able to join their families on a holiday," Sheriff Mike Prendergast said in a statement.
