Bay area Sweetbay stores converting to Winn-Dixie

17 Bay Area Sweetbay stores will close temporarily at the end of March and reopen as Winn-Dixie stores.

Bi-Lo Holdings, LLC -- the parent company of Winn-Dixie -- purchased the Sweetbay grocery chain in 2013. Sweetbays are now being rebranded as Winn-Dixies.

Jacksonville, Florida -- More than three dozen Tampa Bay area Sweetbay stores will be closing temporarily beginning at the end of March. They will then reopen a few days later as Winn-Dixie stores.

Bi-Lo Holdings, the parent company of Winn-Dixie and BI-LO grocery stores, tells 10 News that it will close 17 Sweetbay Supermarkets through the Tampa-St. Petersburg, Largo and Bradenton areas on March 29 and convert them to Winn-Dixie stores. Those new Winn-Dixie stores will reopen on Friday, April 4.

Then on Saturday, April 5, the Sweetbay stores throughout much of the Tampa, Brandon and Zephyrhills areas will close, with the new Winn-Dixie stores set to open on Friday, April 11.

And on Saturday, April 12, 18 more Sweetbay locations- this time in northwest Tampa, Largo, Orlando-Daytona and Gainesville- will undergo the transition. They will reopen as Winn Dixie stores on Friday, April 18.

  • The Winn-Dixie Customer Reward Card, which is a free membership card that allows customers to take advantage of the best deals and values when presented at checkout;

  • $4 and $10 generic prescription savings, plus discounts on many name-brand medications;
  • Weekly savings solutions through Buy One, Get One Free items, 10 for $10 and Meal Deals, which offers great prices on a variety of fresh meal packs for the family; and
  • e-coupons, which are a convenient way to load savings to Winn-Dixie Customer Reward Card and have them redeemed automatically with a swipe of the card, right at the register.

Bi-Lo Holdings purchased the Sweetbay grocery chain last year and later announced Sweetbays would eventually be rebranded as Winn-Dixies.
