Atlanta officer found unresponsive dies due to medical emergency: Police

Not much information was released, but police said the officer was on his way to work when he was found unresponsive due to a medical emergency.

ATLANTA — An Atlanta Police Department officer found unresponsive in his car on Thursday night has died, according to officials. 

Friday morning, the officer was identified as 44-year-old Kenya Galloway. APD said he was currently assigned to the Executive Protection Unit.

Police said the officer was on his way to work when he was found unresponsive due to a medical emergency. Police said he was found near the Atlanta Public Safety Annex Building.

He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum was there a little after midnight with other officers. Georgia State Police Department and other agencies were also seen at the hospital in support of the officer.

The chief and other officers have now left Grady Memorial Hospital to escort the officer to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office. The police department is working on a statement to release to the public and has not shared the name of the officer.
