Customers say they're left hanging after window & door company goes out of business

Sash & Sill customers are very uneasy about whether they're going to get to see their jobs done.

SARASOTA, Fla. — Some customers say a Sarasota contractor is leaving them hanging on window and door projects.

Sash & Sill alerted customers last week that they're going out of business. Customers are very uneasy about whether they're going to get to see their jobs done.

The Florida Attorney General's office has received 9 complaints over the last week. One customer wrote she put down a deposit of $11,000 for new windows. Another says she put down $15,000. Another says the company took her deposit of more than $31,000 just three months ago, and she hasn’t heard back. They’re asking the AG’s office if there’s a way to get their money back. Sash & Sill sent out this email which says in part:

“This difficult decision comes because of unforeseen circumstances that has significantly impacted our financial stability, forcing us to file for bankruptcy.  I have exhausted my personal and business resources in efforts to overcome the situation.. We are currently working on getting as many of your projects completed as possible.”

Walt Bower wrote one of the complaints to the Florida Attorney General and says he paid a $1,725 deposit back in the spring to get a new door after working with them on a different project.

“Very frustrated, angry, you know distrusted because I referred a lot of folks to Sash and Sill for install, and I trusted that they would do their work as expected,” Bower said.

There are already people in a Facebook group talking about their experiences with the company. A thread on reddit also shows customers’ concerns.

“My next step you know is to find who’s impacted you know share resources with the folks,” Bower said.

10 Tampa Bay stopped by the business Wednesday, and there's a sign on the door saying the office is closed, and they're monitoring emails. 10 Investigates reached out to the owner of Sash &Sill but haven't heard back.

A spokesperson for the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office confirmed their investigators are looking at three cases involving the company.
