Hillsborough County animal shelter waives adoption fees through the weekend

The fees will be waived for dogs and cats 1 year or older, and all animals for first responders and military members.

TAMPA, Fla. — In an effort to reduce overcrowding of adult dogs and cats, the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center is waiving adoption fees through the weekend.

The adoption fees for cats and dogs 1 year or older will be waived through Sunday, July 7. People adopting will also get a free ID tag and a three-month supply of flea prevention.

Active-duty and retired military along with first responders will have all adoption fees waived regardless of the animal's age.

Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center staff says the shelter has been housing an unusually large number of cats and dogs this year and the shelter's population typically increases during the summer due to the beginning of kitten season. The shelter was at 112 percent capacity for dogs and 142 percent for cats, as of Friday, June 28.

All animals have been vaccinated, registered, microchipped, and spayed or neutered, animal shelter staff said.

The shelter, located at 440 N. Falkenburg Road, will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through the weekend. It accepts animals regardless of size, age, breed, or medical condition, regardless of space.

Available pets can be also be viewed on the animal shelter's website
