SARASOTA, Fla. — Another food service worker has been diagnosed with hepatitis A, this time in Sarasota County.
The Sarasota County Health Department says the worker was employed at Piccolo Italian Market & Deli on Gateway Avenue while infectious.
Officials said customers who ate there between June 21 and 29 should consider getting vaccinated for hepatitis A.
The public can be vaccinated for free at the Sarasota County Health Department, 2200 Ringling Blvd., from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Saturday.
Vaccinations are offered from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at the health department.
The public can ask questions about hepatitis A by calling 941-861-2873 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
Hepatitis A is a preventable liver disease that’s transmitted through contact with food, drinks or other objects contaminated by small amounts of feces from an infected person.
