Life Time opens new luxury health club on Tampa's Harbour Island

The luxury, fully-renovated health club replaces the beloved Harbour Island Athletic Club, which served the community for over 35 years.

TAMPA, Fla. — Life Time has officially opened its doors on Tampa's Harbour Island, replacing the long-standing Harbour Island Athletic Club, which served the community for over 35 years. The new luxury health club aims to bring a fresh and exciting fitness experience to Tampa residents.

"I know it was kind of like part of their family was taken away," Natalia LePivert, Life Time lead general and personal training leader said. "So for us to be able to bring that back and welcome them into the club has been exciting."

The doors opened at 4 a.m. Tuesday, unveiling a fully renovated 6.44-acre site. The facility features an open workout space, group and private training areas, fitness studios, a hot sauna, a jacuzzi, and a spa. Classes available include yoga, Pilates, cycling, cardio, strength, dance, boxing, kickboxing, and barre, all included in the membership.

With its extensive amenities, organizers describe it as an athletic country club with something for everyone.

"We focus on building a community," LePivert added. "Having a place that's fun and entertaining. A place that's educational and that's friendly and inviting to everyone that comes in."

The 186,000-square-foot facility also offers a beach club, 20 pickleball and tennis courts, a Kid’s Academy, a full-service restaurant, a coffee café, and a bar. The Kid’s Academy, catering to children ages 3 months to 11 years, provides a range of activities focused on mind and body, arts and culture, fitness and agility, and life skills.

Outdoor amenities include a lap pool for adults, a kids splash pool, and a cold plunge, with a basketball court set to open soon.

Life Time previously operated a club at International Mall, which opened in 2014 but closed proactively in June 2023 as plans were made to shift operations to Harbour Island.

The response to the new location has been overwhelmingly positive, with a waiting list already in place.

“Life Time’s arrival on Harbour Island promises an entirely new health and wellness experience for our entire Tampa community,” Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said. “Their investment not only creates new jobs but also infuses vibrancy into the area, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to healthy living for all ages.”

Life Time Harbour Island is open from 4 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday and from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It is located at 900 S. Harbour Island Blvd., Tampa, FL.
