TAMPA, Fla — Starting tomorrow, Florida will be fully in phase one of reopening.
One of the final parts to that phase is reopening gyms, with some new precautions.
"You’ll see some different things when you come to the Y as a Y member," YMCA of the Suncoast CEO Scott Goyer said.
Goyer says when they open Monday morning, it won’t be business as usual.
Staff members will be wearing masks, they’ll have abbreviated hours and not every area will be open again.
Since the governor’s order only allows them to operate at 50-percent capacity, you’ll have to make a reservation to work out too, and they’ll be doing additional cleaning.
"And then we’ll close our building down every hour and a half, and then all our members will leave we’ll clean the building and then we’ll reopen for the next group of members to come in," he said.
In addition to that, staff members will be wearing masks, and you’ll be asked to fill out a screening questionnaire and waiver too.
On Friday, Gov. Ron DeSantis explained his decision to expand phase one of reopening, saying he encourages people to go get tested as communities slowly reopen around the state.
"It doesn’t mean the disease is gone. It doesn’t mean we’re still not going to have to do things to be able to protect the folks that are the most vulnerable, but the American people never signed up for a perpetual shelter in place. And, we need to be able to get society functioning again," he said.
In Tampa, Bayshore Fit says in preparation for tomorrow, the gym is moving equipment around to make sure it’s 6-feet apart and using less equipment, in addition to extra cleaning.
And Retro Fitness tells us it's waiting until Wednesday to reopen, saying it'll be doing extra cleaning and social distancing when they do reopen their doors.
Every gym says its taking extra steps to help you stay healthy while getting healthy.
All gyms in Florida must enforce social distancing and follow new cleaning protocols.
