Happy Birthday Hubble: 25 years of super shots from outer space
This image made by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope shows the Eagle Nebula's "Pillars of Creation." The dust and gas in the pillars is seared by the intense radiation from young stars and eroded by strong winds from massive nearby stars. The Hubble Space Telescope marks its 25th anniversary.

(USA Today) 25 years ago today, NASA's Hubble Space Telescope sent back its first photo of outer space.

Since then, Hubble has provided us with some of the most detailed images ever of our solar system, our galaxy, and our universe, allowing a deep view into space and time.

From bizarre nebulas and distant galaxies to supernovas and interstellar clouds, these photos continue to awe and amaze us and should until the end of the decade, when the telescope finally sends its last shot.

As NASA administrator Charlie Bolden said recently, "Hubble has fundamentally changed human understanding of the universe and our place in it."
