WAYCROSS, Ga. — Family is inviting the community to celebrate and remember Army Sgt. Kennedy L. Sanders, who was killed by a drone strike in Jordan on Jan. 28.
They have set dates for each stage of ceremony, with times to be announced later.
Sanders was from Waycross, Georgia. Her remains are expected to return home sometime next week. Family will release the date when it is known and are hoping that the community will line the streets of Waycross to welcome her.
Sanders' viewing will be held in the city auditorium on Feb. 16. A homegoing ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 17, with the funeral at Oakland Cemetery to follow.
Flowers, well wishes or gifts can be sent to Fluker Funeral Home.
On Feb. 17, all flags on Georgia state buildings will be flown at half-mast in honor of Sgt. Sanders.
On Feb. 20, there will be a street renaming ceremony to change a section of Eads Street into Kennedy L. Sanders Way.
Finally, June 30 will be designated as Kennedy L. Sanders day, James said.
