Powerball winner in Florida cashes in on $80 million

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Orencia Barzey of Lauderhill may soon be getting lots of calls from long lost relatives she's never heard of.

That's because she claimed the $80 million jackpot prize for the Powerball drawing held on Saturday, June 20, 2015.

Barzey, 37, chose to receive the winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $49,566,294.92.

"I was very shocked when I checked the Lottery's website and the numbers on my ticket matched what was on the screen," said Barzey. "I don't plan on changing much about my lifestyle, but I do plan on helping my family with my winnings."

The jackpot-winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased at the Best Value Food Store, located at 1040 Northwest 47th Avenue in Plantation.

The store will receive $40,000 for selling the winning ticket.

The next Powerball drawing will be held Saturday, June 27, with an estimated $50 million jackpot.

The previous winner was Alice P. Dawson of Frisco City, Ala., who bought her $80 million ticket in the town of McDavid across the Florida border in the April 11 drawing. That snapped a one-year drought for Florida winners.
