Transportation officials are looking at creating a flyover at the State Road 54 and U.S. 41 interchange in Land O' Lakes.
"The overpass is not going to help," said Vic Patel.
The 54-41 interchange is the top priority for the Metropolitan Planning Organization. With an accident rate higher than the state average, there's 100,000 cars passing through daily and that's expected to more than double by 2040.
"We're going to have to arrive at a conclusion and a plan because no plan is going to be disastrous for that community," said Pasco County Commissioner Kathryn Starkey.
Last month, the Florida Department of Transportation presented two concepts both using elevated toll lanes to bypass 41. One plan would relocate 24 businesses and the other only 6.
"A lot more people and businesses are going to be affected and it's going to be another mess," said Patel.
Vic Patel has been down this road before. His pool supply store fell victim to the widening of US 41. His business is on the relocation list.
"My customers my staff and obviously my livelihood is at stake at this point," Patel said.
Patel doesn't feel the community has had enough input on a plan.
"We're kind of in the dark right now as we speak and like everyone else we'll be the last to know," said Patel.
According to FDOT, either choice could cost nearly $200 million dollars, but if the MPO, businesses and residents can't agree on a concept then that $200 million could go to another project leaving this road improvement going nowhere.
"That sounds like a lot of pressure for people to make their minds up quickly when I don't think we were given the time to be part of the process," said Sandy Graves with the Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce.
"I have people that are absolutely for the flyover I have people that don't want to see any change," said Starkey.
The community and business owners say they just want to be part of designing their future and not to stuck in traffic.
