PORT RICHEY, Fla. — We’re happy to announce Fox Hollow Elementary School in Pasco County as our 10News School of the Week powered by Duke Energy Florida.
This school is very proud of its culture and administrators’ credit, parents, staff and scholars for their active roles in creating the environment.
To each of them, it feels more like a community than an educational institution. One tangible element of this culture includes the Positive Office Referral and the Positive Postcard.
We might be letting the cat out of the bag, but the Positive Office Referral is written by a teacher and then the scholar heads to the front office where a parent is called on the phone about an “office referral.”
The scholar then surprises the parent on the phone that they’ve been “written-up” for good behavior and then reads the comments the teach wrote over the phone to them. Those referrals are then added to the media center with their picture and every semester those scholars are celebrated.
This year, the Kagan Cooperative Learning Strategy was implemented schoolwide. It’s an engaging learning practice where the scholars first learn to work as partners and then transition to individual learning. The idea of a scholar being able to teach a concept to another scholar reinforces learning for both.
With just a few of these examples, it’s easy to see why it’s our 10News School of the Week powered by Duke Energy Florida.
