Florida’s high school graduation rate hit an all-time high of 86.1 percent, state leaders announced Wednesday.
The 2017-18 graduation rate is an increase compared to the year before when it was 82.3 percent, according to the Florida Department of Education.

Here’s how the Tampa Bay area school districts fared:
Citrus: 84.1 percent
Hardee: 80.2 percent
Hernando: 87.6 percent
Highlands: 77.2 percent
Hillsborough: 85.8 percent
Manatee: 85.4 percent
Pasco: 86.7 percent
Pinellas: 86 percent
Polk: 80.4 percent
Sarasota: 89.1 percent
The state found 180,416 Florida students graduated high school during the 2017-2018 school year. Some 21,723 students did not graduate. It includes:
- Special diplomas: 30 (0.01 percent)
- GED-based diplomas: 584 (0.3 percent)
- Certificates of completion: 3,820 (1.8%percent)
- Still enrolled: 11,107 (5.3 percent)
- Adult education: 5,940 (2.8 percent)
- Withdrawn to contracted private school: 242 (0.1 percent)
Some 7,426 students dropped out in the 2017-2018 school year, which is about 3.5 percent of Florida high school students.
