Dog dies locked in SUV at Phoenix mall

Police have filed an animal cruelty report, but no arrests have been made at this point.

(AZCentral.com) - Phoenix police say they are investigating a case of animal cruelty involving the death of a dog locked in an SUV outside a Phoenix mall during excessive-heat conditions.

Officers were called to Christown Spectrum Mall, 1703 E. Bethany Home Road, at about 3:30 p.m. Monday regarding a dog locked in a car, according to Sgt. Trent Crump, a Phoenix police spokesman.

The dog was a 1-year-old pit bull mix and was found inside the car by a mall security officer. The dog died shortly after.

Officials located the dog owners, but no arrests were made, Crump added.

The investigation is ongoing.
