TAMPA, Fla. — A suspected gunman in the deadly Halloween weekend shooting in Ybor City was denied bond and will remain behind bars until a hearing on Thursday.
During that next court appearance, a judge will consider whether 22-year-old Tyrell Phillips will remain in jail prior to trial. He's believed to be at least one of possibly two gunmen in the shootout between two groups early Sunday morning.
Phillips faces a charge of second-degree murder with a firearm after a 14-year-old and 20-year-old were killed and 16 other people were hurt.
After making a first appearance in court on Monday morning, Phillips is set to be back in court at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday for a pre-trial detention hearing. He is currently in jail with no bond.
"My office remains focused on ensuring those responsible for the senseless acts of gun violence over the weekend are held accountable," State Attorney Suzy Lopez said in a statement. "Our community must do its part to help identify anyone who endangered lives in Ybor City on Sunday morning. Please call Tampa Police or Crimestoppers if you have additional information that might be useful to law enforcement or this pending case."

It's believed he and possibly another shooter opened fire just before 3 a.m. Sunday in the area of East 7th Avenue and North 17th Street, Tampa Police Department Chief Lee Bercaw said. That's located near popular bars and restaurants, including Bradley's on 7th and Ybor City Tap House.
According to the police chief, two groups had some sort of "dispute" on the main strip of Ybor City before shots were fired.
The gunfire happened just as the bars were letting out. It sent people running, leaving debris and trash scattered all over the area.
Of the 16 people hurt — police initially said 18 but revised the figure lower, 15 were shot and one other was seriously injured, Bercaw said. Many of the additional victims, who ranged in age from 18-27 years old, have been medically treated and released from the hospital.
Five remain in the hospital, recovering from their injuries.
"My heart goes out to the families and their extended families," Bercaw said during an earlier news conference. "This is extremely tragic, but the families all told me that they are so appreciative of the work of the police and that they want justice, and they are appreciative of the community coming forward and providing tips that helped us place those charges today."
