SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — An Arkansas woman was sentenced to probation after trying to frame her husband by putting child porn on his phone and falsifying a story about him raping a 13-year-old girl.
Cherie Renee Bolton, 34, was sentenced to six years of probation and must register as a sex offender after she pleaded guilty to possessing and distributing child pornography and filing a false report, the Arkansas Democrat Gazette reported.
She had faced a maximum 10-year prison sentence before she agreed to a plea deal. Online records don't show any other convictions for her, the newspaper said.
Bolton was arrested in January 2018 after an investigation into the charges she made against her husband, CBS affiliate KFSM said. She told police she had caught him sexually assaulting the girl and attacked him. She showed police three images of child porn and a possible bruise on her ribs.
She told police she had not reported the incident right away because she was afraid of her husband. Police found, however, that he had kicked her out of their home days before she went to authorities. The husband and the girl also denied any sexual assault had occurred.
The police also determined it was Bolton who had downloaded the child porn, not her husband.
At first, she denied downloading the images, but eventually, she told officers she had downloaded them while she was high on meth.
