ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 31-year-old woman is behind bars after she was accused of driving 120 mph Saturday night on a popular Tampa Bay area bridge and then attacking a law enforcement officer.
At 8:30 p.m., Brittany Bianchi passed a Florida trooper in her Mercedes sedan while driving westbound on the Gandy Bridge at 120 mph, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release. The bridge has a posted 55 mph zone.
The trooper then pulled Bianchi over for a traffic stop.
The 31-year-old from St. Petersburg was arrested, but she reportedly became violent and attacked the trooper by digging her fingernails into the trooper's hands.
Local law enforcement officers were able to detain Bianchi and she was later taken to the Pinellas County Jail.
The 31-year-old was charged with driving under the influence – her third within 10 years – habitual traffic offender, resisting officer with violence, battery on law enforcement, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding and no insurance.
