DAVENPORT, Fla. — A 23-year-old woman from Clermont was arrested after Polk County deputies said she sped through a school zone while looking at her iPad.

After she was pulled over, she reportedly hit and bit a deputy.

As a result, deputies say Lara Alexandre received several traffic citations, along with various charges, including two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and possession of marijuana. The incident happened around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday outside Ridgeview Global Studies in Davenport.

In a news release, the agency said Alexandre was also not wearing her seatbelt. After she was pulled over, the woman told a deputy she didn't have a driver's license.

After running through her information, the deputy found out that Alexandre's license had been suspended in September. The agency also found marijuana and paraphernalia in her purse, alongside her suspended license in the car.

"As one deputy was taking her into custody, she became combative, and elbowed him in the chest," the agency said in the release.

Once the woman arrived at the sheriff's processing center in Winter Haven, she reportedly "became aggressive in the back of the patrol car," prompting a detention deputy to help the sheriff's deputy get her out.

"Alexandre bit that detention deputy on the arm and then tried to bite the deputy again," the sheriff's office said.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd stated that while he's not sure if Alexandre celebrates Christmas or not, "she's certainly not spreading joy this holiday season."

"Here's a tip - if you're driving illegally, you probably shouldn't draw attention to yourself by speeding through a school zone while looking at a mobile device and not wearing your seatbelt," Judd stated in the release.
