MIAMI — A 27-year-old woman was arrested in South Florida after she led authorities on a high-speed chase before jumping off a concrete ramp into water, reports say.
In an article from WTVJ-TV (NBC 6), on May 9, Melina Logan was going to Honda of South Miami to test drive a new Honda Civic. Whenever the salesperson left the vehicle, she reportedly took off with the car.
After a "be on the lookout" was issued, the car was found later that afternoon on the Palmetto Expressway. Logan was reportedly driving at around 90 mph and making aggressive lane changes, including passing cars by using the shoulder.
Dash camera video released by the Florida Highway Patrol on Saturday shows the Honda in standstill traffic near the Northwest 25th Street off-ramp before crashing into several vehicles, the news station reported. One driver involved in the crash was injured and hospitalized.
NBC 6 says after the car Logan was in became disabled, she got out of the car, managed to avoid officers, jumped off a nearby concrete ledge and into a nearby lake.
Authorities attempted to get her out by throwing a rope for her, but say she refused to grab it.
When officers jumped into the lake to get Logan, she scratched a Miami-Dade officer and pushed a Doral officer underwater, according to the article. Authorities were eventually able to get her out of the lake.
According to another report from WPLG-TV (Local 10), she may have either lost or ditched some of her clothes while in the water.
The outlet also says that Honda staff tells them Logan has been at their location before.
Logan was charged with grand theft of a vehicle, two counts of battery on a police officer, fleeing & eluding police, leaving the scene of a crash and resisting an officer.
