Melissa Annette Lopez, 25, was arrested for DUI manslaughter, among other charges.

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A Hudson woman was arrested after a crash left a motorcyclist dead early Sunday morning on U.S. Highway 19 in Pasco County, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

Melissa Annette Lopez, 25, was arrested for DUI manslaughter, among other charges, according to FHP.

Around 1:10 a.m., Lopez was reportedly driving north on Highway 19 while the motorcyclist, a 21-year-old man from Inverness, was traveling south.

Near the intersection of Sea Ranch Drive, Lopez turned into the path of the motorcyclist under a flashing yellow left turn signal, causing him to collide with the right side of her car.

The man's motorcycle caught fire before he was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to FHP.

FHP troopers arrested Lopez and booked her into the Pasco County Jail, the agency said. She is reportedly charged with DUI manslaughter, DUI property damage and driving with no license involving a death.
