Florida woman, 2 sons arrested in connection to man's death in 2021

The man's death was ruled as a homicide, but no one was arrested until now.

SUWANNEE, Fla. — A woman and her two sons were arrested in connection to the death of a man back in 2021 out of Dixie County.

A Facebook post from the Dixie County Sheriff's Office explains David Rainey was reported missing by his wife Cindy Rainey on the morning of July 25, 2021. The couple was on vacation in Suwannee with their family.

Hours later, investigators found the man dead in a canal behind the rental where the family was staying. He reportedly had multiple stab wounds to the chest and was placed in the water after he died.

His death was ruled as a homicide, but no one has been arrested until now.

Fast forward to Wednesday, Oct. 25, Cindy Rainey and her two sons, Bailey and Jack Rainey, were taken into custody.

Investigators traveled to Bunnel and arrested Cindy and Bailey Rainey with help from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office before heading over to Orlando where Jack Rainey was arrested.

They are all facing charges of tampering with evidence. No other information on additional charges has been released.

"Sheriff Darby Butler would like to thank The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and the Office of the State Attorney, Third Circuit, for assisting the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office with these arrests," the Dixie County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook.
