DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Officers with the Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) arrested a Volusia County Sheriff's Office deputy accused of two sexual assaults that were reported on Monday, May 13.
Forty-year-old Stephen Corbin was taken into custody after a victim alleged he held them against their will, threatening arrest if they did not engage in a sexual act, police said in a news release. He reportedly approached them in a marked patrol car while off-duty.
After getting out of Corbin's car, the victim called Daytona Beach police.
Based on evidence, officers added that Corbin may have assaulted another victim earlier the same day. He was arrested Wednesday night at the police station and is currently charged with two counts each of bribery, battery, false imprisonment and solicitation to commit prostitution.
Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood offered a statement on Corbin's arrest in a Facebook post.
"To say I’m disappointed in his behavior is an understatement," Chitwood said in the post. "His actions not only discredit his own name, but tarnish the Sheriff’s Office badge and the reputation of our entire organization."
Chitwood added that Corbin had been a deputy with the sheriff's office since May 2015 and had tendered his resignation on the same day as his arrest. He said his office will cooperate fully with DBPD to release more details on the case.
"This person will not be a deputy sheriff in our community, and his badge will be melted down so it won’t represent this agency in the future," Chitwood said in the post.
DBPD encourages anyone with information about the case to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 368-671-5202.
