VENICE, Fla. - A Venice couple was arrested after a two-month-old girl suffered severe head injuries while in their care, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Ashley Finnegan, 29, and her boyfriend George Gluschenko Jr., 34, were both charged with child abuse after doctors discovered “severe skull fractures and underlying hemorrhages,” according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
On Dec. 12, the baby was taken to the hospital after Gluschenko said he threw a cell phone on the bed and accidentally hit the victim, according to the incident report.
After doctors examined the baby, they determined the injuries were likely caused by physical abuse and not consistent with Gluschenko’s story, according to the incident report.
The baby is still in the hospital undergoing treatment but is very responsive, deputies report.
Both remain in the Sarasota County jail without bond.
