DAVENPORT, Fla. — A man was arrested after he was found driving a couple from the United Kingdom around in a stolen SUV in Davenport, the Polk County Sheriff's Office reports.

A Facebook post from the agency explains that 27-year-old Elijah Mills from Maitland, who was working as an Uber driver, was taken into custody on Tuesday night.

While the driver was transporting the couple, Marc and Rhiannon, who were in town for their wedding next week, a deputy with the sheriff's office got behind them on U.S. 27.

After a few more deputies got behind the SUV, they eventually were able to box in the car and force it to stop.

The reason for the stop: the Chevy Equinox that Mills was driving allegedly wasn't his.

Mills rented the SUV from a company in Orange County, the agency explains in the post. But after a while, he reportedly stopped making payments, so the rental company reported it as stolen.

"Elijah even told our deputies that the rental company would call him every day, but he refused to answer because he knew they would ask him about the payments," the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook.

To make sure the car didn't stop working even after not paying, Mills kept the Equinox running for three weeks straight, deputies explained.

The 27-year-old was arrested and taken to jail on charges of grand theft motor vehicle and driving with a license suspended or revoked.

"As for Marc and Rhiannon—the deputies posed with the happy couple for a quick photo, then gave them a free ride to where they are staying," the agency wrote.
