SPRING HILL, Fla. — Deputies with the Hernando County Sheriff's Office arrested three teens who are accused of breaking into a local middle school over the weekend and stealing items.
According to a news release, at around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, the three teens broke into Fox Chapel Middle School, located at 9412 Fox Chapel Lane in Spring Hill.
Surveillance cameras show them wearing face coverings and carrying a bat, hammer and a screwdriver, deputies explain. They reportedly went inside the school and were "prowling through several buildings on the school campus between 1:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m."
The teens were seen on video removing a Roku device and a drill from the school.
It wasn't until two days later that detectives were able to identify a 17-year-old as a possible suspect after he went to his high school wearing the same blue hoodie that was seen in the surveillance video.
Detectives were able to talk to the teen who eventually admitted to breaking into the school and stealing the Roku device, the release explains. The device was retrieved later from the teen's house.
After talking with detectives, the 17-year-old was arrested and is now facing charges of burglary of an unoccupied structure and possession of burglary tools.
After the teen told detectives who the other two people were in the video, authorities eventually talked to both. After admitting to the crime, both teens – one 14 and the other 15 – were arrested.
They are both facing the same charges as the 17-year-old.
