Teacher Jamie Hernandez Cabrera was booked into jail on multiple charges relating to having a sexual relationship with a student.

TAMPA, Fla. — A teacher at Durant High School in Hillsborough County was arrested for having an inappropriate and sexual relationship with a student.

Jamie Hernandez Cabrera, 25, connected with a 16-year-old girl on social media in October 2022 and began a consensual sexual relationship with her from November 2022 to June, according to a news release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

In August, Hernandez Cabrera started work as a teacher at Durant High School, where the girl was enrolled as a student.

He and the victim resumed their relationship, with the last incident occurring in March on school property during school hours, the release said.

Deputies responded to an unrelated call on April 11 when the relationship was discovered. A warrant for Hernandez Cabrera's arrest was issued on Thursday and he turned himself into the Orient Road Jail later that day.

"It's utterly infuriating even to think that someone could stoop to such disgusting behavior, especially when they are in a position of authority," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in part through a statement.

Hernandez Cabrera is facing charges of four counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and four counts of sexual battery, according to deputies.
