TAMPA, Fla. — A man is facing a murder charge after police said he was connected to a stabbing that left one person dead in Tampa.
On Saturday, the Tampa Police Department arrested 57-year-old Eddy Caron, saying he is the suspect in a homicide investigation from June 12.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a 52-year-old man with stab wounds on his upper body in the area of N 15th Street and E Hillsborough Avenue behind a nearby Wendy's.
A witness, who was at the Wendy's, told authorities he saw both Caron and the 52-year-old alive sometime before the attack began. Another witness said they saw Caron leaving the area after the attack on a bicycle with deer antlers attached to the handlebars.
Officials say they used surveillance footage from a nearby convenience store to identify Caron. The footage showed him going into a nearby convenience, purchasing beer, going through the fenced area behind the Wendy's restaurant and then leaving the area on the bike.
Police also discovered a beer can near the scene and later matched it to Caron's DNA.
"We hope that this arrest will provide some closure for the family of the victim," Chief Lee Bercaw said in a statement. "This successful investigation is a testament to the outstanding work of our detectives who pieced together the evidence, identified the suspect, and quickly took him into custody."
Caron was taken into the Hillsborough County Jail and is facing one count of first-degree murder.
Investigators said Caron's backpack and bicycle matched witness description and surveillance footage from a separate trespassing incident but did not say whether Caron would face additional charges.
