Suspect at large after shooting that left man dead, woman injured in Clearwater

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. Saturday at the Washington Square apartments at 2 Fernwood Avenue, the Clearwater Police Department said.

CLEARWATER, Fla. — A suspect is at large after a shooting that left a 51-year-old man dead and his 43-year-old girlfriend injured early Saturday morning in Clearwater.

The shooting happened around around 2 a.m. Saturday at the Washington Square apartments at 2 Fernwood Avenue, the Clearwater Police Department stated in a news release. 

The suspect, who has not been identified at this time, reportedly arrived at the apartment and became involved in a fight with the woman's 19-year-old son. The fight escalated before the man and woman were shot, police said.

Both were taken to Orlando Bayfront Hospital, where the 51-year-old man died from his gunshot wounds. His girlfriend was treated for injuries and released, the department said.

Detectives say they don't believe the shooting was random and are asking anyone with information on the suspect's whereabouts to call Clearwater police at 727-562-4242.
