ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A St. Petersburg man who claimed his partner died by suicide has been charged in her death, police said.
Gregory Shinn, 48, faces a murder charge after killing his domestic partner, 59-year-old Katrin Mari Simpson, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.
The investigation started back in February. Police said just before 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 20, Shinn called authorities to report he had found his girlfriend's body hanging in their garage. At the time, he claimed she killed herself.
However, police said they investigated further, uncovering Shinn's history of domestic violence. Additionally, officers said there were inconsistencies with Shinn's statements.
Moreover, it was determined that injuries to Simpson's body were inconsistent with suicide by hanging.
Shinn was arrested Tuesday, April 30, and charged with first-degree murder for Simpson's death.
