PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — Troopers are on the hunt for a driver accused of killing an 82-year-old Jacksonville man during a hit-and-run crash last month in Pinellas County.
At 6:48 p.m. on Nov. 28, a pickup truck described as a 2002 or 2006 Dodge Ram was heading southbound on 49th Street North in St. Petersburg, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.
At the intersection of 58th Avenue North, the driver turned east and crashed into the man who was crossing the road in a marked crosswalk, troopers say.
After hitting the man, the driver reportedly continued to head southbound and leave the area.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. But on Dec. 1, he was pronounced dead due to his injuries.
Authorities say they were told by witnesses that the man was struck by the right side of the pickup truck so the vehicle would have damage to its right fender and engine hood. Witnesses also said the pickup truck had a loud stock exhaust and it was in good condition despite some fading paint.
Anyone with information regarding the deadly hit-and-run is asked to call FHP at *347 or Crime stoppers at **TIPS.
