CITRUS PARK, Fla. — A teenage boy is dead after a fight escalated to a shooting Saturday night outside a Red Robin at the Citrus Park Town Center Mall, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
The shooting happened around 7:16 p.m. when deputies received reports of shots fired outside of the mall, the agency said. Deputies reportedly arrived to find the teen with a gunshot wound to his upper body.
The minor was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff's office.
In a press conference following the shooting, Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer said two people were detained and are being questioned. He added that they and the teen were eating together before a fight broke out, leading up to the shooting.
"When the community comes to the mall, it's to have a good time," Maurer said. "To go shopping, to eat, to be with their friends. This is an act of senseless violence that happened tonight."
