TAMPA, Fla. — A school security officer with Hillsborough County Public Schools was arrested for driving under the influence early Saturday morning in Tampa.
David Cruzado, 57, was arrested after a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputy found him allegedly swerving his car from the lane on Sunforest Drive and Eisenhower Boulevard, the agency stated in a news release. He has been charged with DUI over 0.15
Cruzado was reportedly wearing his school security uniform and had his gun in the car at the time of his arrest.
The 57-year-old showed "signs of impairment" during a field sobriety test before blowing a .168 and .175 during two breath tests.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister called the arrest "deeply disappointing."
"His decision to drive under the influence endangered our community and is unacceptable—especially for someone entrusted with the safety of our schools. He will be held accountable for his actions," Chronister stated in the news release.
The investigation remains active, deputies said. The Public Affairs Office will provide more updates when they are available.
