Man arrested after Tampa bar fight leaves security guard dead

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says the suspect was originally charged with battery.

TAMPA, Fla. — A man is charged with manslaughter after a fight at a Tampa bar lounge left one person dead, officials said.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a reported disturbance just before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 2 at the Tally Ho Bar Lounge & Grill, located off North 56th Street.

When they arrived, investigators say they learned of the fight between patrons and security at the bar. One of the guards, 50-year-old Kenneth Washington, tried to intervene but was hit in the head by a patron and collapsed, according to HCSO.

Deputies reportedly began medical treatment until Hillsborough County Fire Rescue transported Washington to a local hospital, where he later died.

Following the fight, the sheriff's office arrested 26-year-old Joshua Valdibieso for battery at the scene due to an autopsy not being available at the time.

On Friday, detectives said an arrest warrant was issued for Valdibieso for manslaughter. HCSO, along with the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, arrested Valdibieso on Sunday in Pasco County.

"It's tragic that a man lost his life due to senseless violence while simply doing his job," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "I commend our deputies for their dedication to justice. Their meticulous work with this case has led to the successful arrest of this violent man, who will now be held accountable for his actions."

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
