'Armed and dangerous' man wanted in deadly Sarasota shooting arrested in Miami

Sarasota police thanked the Miami and Miami-Dade Police Departments "for their critical assistance" in arresting the wanted 54-year-old.

SARASOTA, Fla. — Kevin Holloway, the suspect accused of killing a man during an overnight shooting in Sarasota, has been arrested in Miami, the Sarasota Police Department said in a news release.

Sarasota police thanked the Miami and Miami-Dade Police Departments "for their critical assistance" in arresting the wanted 54-year-old, who they considered "armed and dangerous."

According to officers, the shooting happened just after 1 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of Dixie Avenue and 24th Street. One person was found dead after they had been shot. 

Sarasota police say Holloway faces multiple charges including murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and two counts of aggravated assault. 

“This case highlights our commitment to community safety and the importance of inter-agency cooperation. Thank you to all the officers and detectives involved for your hard work and dedication,” Sarasota Police Chief Rex Troche stated. “We continue to uphold the law and protect our community.”
