TAMPA, Fla. — A 21-year-old man from the Tampa Bay area is behind bars after officials say he threatened to kill people involved in a Jewish organization in New York City.
Deep Kumar Patel of Sarasota was charged with transmitting an interstate threat to injure.
On Oct. 21, Patel left a threatening voicemail at the World Jewish Congress Center, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release.
According to a complaint affidavit, the Sarasota man revealed who he was on the voicemail and screamed expletives and threats on the line, including, "If I had a chance, I would kill every single one of you Israelis. Every single one of you! Cause mass genocide of every single Israeli.”
If found guilty of this act, Patel can face a maximum of five years in federal prison.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Joint Terrorism Task Force investigated the case and will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Risha Asokan, the news release mentioned.
