SARASOTA, Fla. -- A Sarasota man faces manslaughter charges after he allegedly gave a woman fentanyl.
Sarasota detectives launched an investigation on July 27, 2017, after a 58-year-old woman died of an overdose, which was later confirmed by the Medical Examiner's Office.
After detectives looked through surveillance video and text messages on the victim's phone, they said they determined Bernard Mullen, 51, was the person who allegedly gave her the drugs.
According to police, when deputies arrived at Mullen's house in the 4500 block of Barton Drive, more narcotics equipment was found, including suspected heroin.
Mullen was arrested Friday morning near Chicago.
He faces charges of sale or delivery of fentanyl and manslaughter.
He will be extradited back to Sarasota County.
