PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — The Port St. Lucie Police Department revealed its new robotic dog to help law enforcement officers in a post on Facebook.
The police department received a $25,000 grant to build the robotic dog, according to the department. It has already been utilized in narcotic searches and is supposed to be used in future dangerous situations.
The Go2 was deployed in a house to search for anyone who may have been inside the residence before a SWAT Team entered.
“This piece of equipment can be used to clear houses, buildings, and other structures before we send an actual officer inside," Police Chief Richard Del Toro said in a statement. "We are dedicated to providing all the resources available to keep our officers safe.”
The robot dog, according to the company's website, has a light attached for darker areas, detection and avoidance technology and real-time mapping systems to detect and navigate all terrains. The robot can also perform a variety of normal dog poses, including jumping, sitting, stretching, shaking hands and pouncing.
The dog also features cameras, a side-follow system, intercom microphones, a strap to carry and load things, remote-controlled and automated tracking, a motion controller and an AI algorithm processor.
